Random Acts of Kindness Week
September 1st is National Random Acts of Kindness (RAOK) Day, and we are celebrating all week!
Drop in to Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre for some RAOK inspiration, and we will have a bookmark making station so you can create some to give out to friends, family or other library users.
It’s also Sustainable Spring at the library, so for RAOK Week we will also have a ‘Bring and Swap’ exchange table. You can drop off any items in good working order that are likely to be useful to someone else. Please no broken, dirty, incomplete, or obsolete items. No electrical items.

Te Manu Tītī - Bilingual Storytimes
Piki ake ki ngā parirau a Whaea Justice! Come find Whaea Justice and her manuhiri as she flies around our libraries with a bilingual story time. Fill your wairua/cup with some new pukapuka (books) and waiata (songs) that might take you back in time! This is for all whānau to enjoy!

The Great Library Seed and Plant Swap
Got some leftover seeds or seedlings? Bring them into your library to share with the community!
We welcome vegetable, herb, flower, native and heritage seeds - and you can even bring any spare seedlings you have potted up.
Thanks to Trees For Canterbury, we have some plants to get you started and CCGA for seeds!

Afterschool Activity Zone- Celebrating Papua New Guinea Language Week
To mark Papua New Guinea Language Week, join the Pasifika Library team for a hands-on flower craft inspired by the Bird of Paradise, Papua New Guinea's national symbol.

Bring along your unwanted fabric, haberdashery, buttons, wool, lace, trims, paints, brushes, zips, needles, card, stamps, in fact any surplus crafting supplies. Then choose what you want to take away.

Wan Solwara means “one ocean”
Join us for stories, rhymes and action songs celebrating the amazing languages and cultures of the Pacific islands. All tied together by our special friendship with the sea.

Can you recycle all plastics, and what really goes in that red wheelie bin?
Join Chris Duggan from Learning Through Action and find out about recycling, waste minimisation and where our household waste goes once it's been collected. Learn practical knowledge to share with your whānau about how to be more sustainable at home.

Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre - Sustainability T-shirt Workshop - 6-14 years
Bring your own your own white or natural t-shirt or tote bag and create a design to promote an eco-friendly message. We will provide some ideas and design starters that fit the sustainability theme - protecting nature and animals, keeping our environment clean and caring for our planet! Or come up with an idea of your own!
Completed designs will be printed to the t-shirt or tote using our direct to garment printer.
Under 10yr olds must be accompanied by an adult.
Bookings required, cost is $6.91 including booking fee.

Join us for a variety of activities including technology, crafts, and games. For ages 5+.

Auahatanga – Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre Creative Time
Drop in and have a go with our creative technologies in the creative space at Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre. Equipment available includes 3D printers, Roland BN-20 Vinyl Printer, photo/slide scanner, craft cutter, badge maker, Sewing Machine, Overlocker, VR (Virutal Reality), music software, design and photo editing software including Adobe Creative Cloud apps for Mac Studio computers. Staff will be on hand if you need help.

These are not structured sessions, but a chance for you to try out the equipment available and work on your own creative projects.
These sessions are geared towards people aged 16 and older.
