Te Manu Tītī - Bilingual Storytimes

Piki ake ki ngā parirau a Whaea Justice! Come find Whaea Justice and her manuhiri as she flies around our libraries with a bilingual story time. Fill your wairua/cup with some new pukapuka (books) and waiata (songs) that might take you back in time! This is for all whānau to enjoy!

Love sharing your favourite reads? Come and join other book lovers in our friendly, relaxed library environment. No bookings required.

Held on the last Wednesday of the month.

Wednesday 26 August, 5.45-6.45pm. Free no bookings needed.

National Poetry Day Competition

Enter our network-wide Poetry Competition for your chance to have your winning poem printed on a tote bag!

Open to adults and under 18s. One poem per person (maximum 16 lines).

Entries are open from 17–31 August and can be submitted online or at any library.

Random Acts of Kindness Week

September 1st is National Random Acts of Kindness (RAOK) Day, and we are celebrating all week!

Drop in to Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre for some RAOK inspiration, and we will have a bookmark making station so you can create some to give out to friends, family or other library users.

It’s also Sustainable Spring at the library, so for RAOK Week we will also have a ‘Bring and Swap’ exchange table. You can drop off any items in good working order that are likely to be useful to someone else. Please no broken, dirty, incomplete, or obsolete items.

Got some leftover seeds or plants?

Bring them to your local library to share with your community!

7-13 September, All day

The Great Stash Swap

Bring along your unwanted fabric, haberdashery, buttons, wool, lace, trims, paints, brushes, zips, needles, card, stamps, in fact any surplus crafting supplies. Then choose what you want to take away. No cash involved.

This event will be held in Hao Community Room, all welcome.

Join us for a variety of activities including technology, crafts, and games. For ages 5+.

Auahatanga – Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre Creative Time

Drop in and have a go with our creative technologies in the creative space at Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre. Equipment available includes 3D printers, Roland BN-20 Vinyl Printer, photo/slide scanner, craft cutter, badge maker, Sewing Machine, Overlocker, VR (Virutal Reality), music software, design and photo editing software including Adobe Creative Cloud apps for Mac Studio computers. Staff will be on hand if you need help.

These are not structured sessions, but a chance for you to try out the equipment available and work on your own creative projects.

These sessions are geared towards people aged 16 and older.
